Warren is one of the oldest communities in Rhode Island with a storied and colorful history. Originally, it was the summer home of the Wampanoag Indians. During the Revolutionary War, the town was attacked by British and Hessian soldiers and during the war for independence played host to Lafayette and George Washington.

Warren has played many roles: a ship-building center, the oyster capital of the world and it was a vital part of the industrial revolution. From its meager beginnings in agriculture and livestock, through shipbuilding, shellfishing and textile manufacturing, to current times with its antique and retail shops, visual and performing arts, Warren has become a modern example of American history.
